Fresh from Finland

One of ‘em Finland’s finest, nu-soul-electro-smooth-pop train Happy-Go-Lucky had a kick ass show last week at Kuudes linja‘s patio and despite the randomly heavy rain, we here at Fresh Tunes Finland are now officially convinced.

Live band consisting of hardcore-professional rhytm music enthusiasts (Petteri Sariola* on guitar, for example) mixed with Tapio Backlund‘s bass playing & beat programming, and ever-so-amazing Stina Koistinen‘s vocals did the trick and we’re sure we speak for everyone by using the good old phrase “One of the best gigs this summer”. HGL (Tapio Backlund & Stina Koistinen) released their debut album couple years ago via Cymbidium Records, which for some reason (and unfortunately) didn’t quite get people’s attention. New one is one its way and what we’ve managed to hear, it’s gonna be one hell of a show.

Whereas their “old” songs are a bit more chilled out and maybe “trip hop -ish” the new stuff is backed up with really catchy choruses, occasionally even drum ‘n bass beats and uplifting spirit as the theme. (That btw is probably one of the worst descriptions ever – I meant cool, catchy & happy just like they are) The show was pretty much the same. Seeing HGL performing live is like exploring Helsinki just before the fall properly comes. Cool, atmospheric and makes you wanna see more. The bottom line is, they’re going to be loved. Hopefully by everyone.
