Now we’ve celebrated our midsummer here in Finland and are headed for shorter days, which will somewhere along the line turn into the stereotypical Finnish seasons. That’s one of the key ingredients to some of the harder sounds that have surfaced from up north or so we like to think. That way we have some reconciliation for our murky and dramatic weather. It’s surely not our intention to be gloomy in the middle of summer, but a vocational brochure of Finland can definitely not read “ 300 sunny days in a year. “

On a more cheery note, Raised Fist announced they will play in Nosturi the 25th of September. After their raw energy at Provinssirock a week ago, it is surely a performance not to be missed. We would like to take the time to stress how much we enjoyed their show in Provinssirock, which is why this ongoing sentence will serve as a tribute to the artist. Go see them, seriously.

As usual, the Nosturi summer – fall line up includes some great shows, with artists like Chimaira, Unearth, Throwdown, Protest the Hero and so on. Ironically three of those are playing the same evening, talk about your moneys worth.

The next few weeks will also see some big names, or mainly some big shows, in Finland. This coming Wednesday Faith No More are playing in Helsinki. The list continues with Morrissey, the legendary B. B. King, Pet Shop Boys, Korn, even Britney Spears will make an appearance, hair or no hair. Then Madonna. You start to wonder how much these artists actually tour; doesn’t it feel like at least one of them keeps popping up way too much? No? Alright then..

Many festivals are still ahead, like Ruisrock, which will take place in Turku this coming weekend. The line up features a plethora of artists, including Slipknot, In Flames, Gogol Bordello, Disturbed, Neurosis and several domestic artists, like the oh so lovely and talented Pintandwefall. Also coming up is Sonisphere in Pori in the end of July, which will host another heap of artists, the likes of Metallica, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Anthrax.   It’s like everything is up for grabs – just take your pick!

There’s a lot coming up this summer, shows, releases and what not. Make sure you keep your eyes open, because there will definitely be a lot of buzz this summer, and you won’t want to miss all of it. And if you’re lazy enough, just follow us and we will find some real pearls for you.

PS. In case you’ve missed it, check out the new music video from Killswitch Engage titled Starting Over. Guitar-driven as ever, music video not much unlike the Last Serenade. Juicy.
